Review
Story
dookudu Shankar Narayan (Prakash Raj) is a political leader and a man of masses. He wants his son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) to become a political leader. Shankar Narayan is hurt in an accident and goes into coma. Meanwhile Ajay grows up and goes onto become an aggressive cop. And suddenly Shankar Narayan comes out of coma. The rest of the story is all about how Ajay manages to keep the changes under wrap for his father, and takes revenge on the villains at the same time with some unconventional ploys.
Artists Performance
dookuduMahesh Babu: Mahesh Babu proved himself again that he is a director’s actor. He has a big heart to allow Brahmanandam to take center stage for a few minutes, though it is Mahesh who creates such situations. One should have a flair to time the comedy of Seenu Vytla and Mahesh does it effortlessly. Mahesh is one of the comedians when he is with Brahmanandam and MS Narayana. Mahesh Babu has also excelled in dialogue delivery by mixing Telangana accent in villain confrontation scenes. Mahesh Babu’s trade mark teasing romance works big time in Turkey episodes. You see Mahesh being cheerful and smiling in most of the parts of the film.
dookuduOthers: Samantha has a limited role in this movie and she does justice. Brahmanandam has a dialogue in the film – nannu vaadukondi saar. Seenu Vytla is one of very few directors who utilizes the talent of Brahmanandam to the maximum extent. All those Brahmanandam lovers will have another feast in this movie in which he acts an actor of a fictitious reality show. The way Brahmanandam keeps expressions for ‘bheebhatsamaina humanity’ dialogue and the scene in which he appeals to Nagarjuna Akkineni using his camera pen is priceless. MS Narayana who has excelled as fire star in Dubai Seenu does another similar role in which he wants to make his debut as hero opposite Genelia. Prakash Raj is seen in a positive role (inspired by PJR) and he is excellent. Vennela Kishore does the role of Sastry whose grandmother is a fortuneteller. Nassar has done a comic role for a difference..

DookuduStory – screenplay – direction: The basic concept of a person going into coma and that person’s son creating artificial atmosphere around is inspired by a German film titled ‘Goodbye Lenin! (2003) ’. That German film is a serious film and somewhat boring (for me). The story writer Gopi Mohan used that plot and moulded it to make an entertaining script. Seenu Vytla’s main strength has always been entertainment and he made sure that there are ample characters to create humor. He used Brahmanandam and MS Narayanara effectively to create ample humor. Characterization of Mahesh Babu is done well and the director has also shown Mahesh Babu in new light with better comedy timing. Though the entertainment and action orientation is good, there are ups and downs in the narrative graph due to runtime and number of characters. Screenplay of the film is good. The screenplay techniques used on Prakash Raj taking revenge without knowing about it and Brahmanandam’s crazy realty show will surely generate more commercial appreciation. Among all the characters, I feel that the character of Suman is not properly etched. It would have been more powerful if hero is introduced through the words of some other character, not through Suman’s. And the death of Suman is also not justifiable. The following aspects of Seenu Vytla’s trademark
1. Mahesh Babu: heroine teasing in Istanbul n Making Brahmanandam and MS Narayana Bakras.
2. Brahmanandam: SMS voting appeal and appeal to Nagarjuna Akkineni
3. MS Narayana: Showreel (Yamadonga, magadheera, Robo and Simha) and nalukapaina macha episode. Incidentally the same MS Narayana did a photoshoot comedy episode in Seenu Vytla’s Sontham in the past.
DookuduOther departments: Dialogues penned by Kona Venkat and Seenu Vytla are good. They are humor dialogues and masala heroism dialogues. Music by Thaman has already become a chartbuster and background music is nice. Cinematography by KV Guhan and Prasad Murella complements to story. Editing by Varma is adequate. The producers trio (Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara) have spent a lot of money and the entire film is shot in extravagant style.
DookuduAnalysis: First half of the movie sets the plot up and it is entertaining. There are ups and downs in the second half, but the entertainment provided by Mahesh Babu, Brahmanandam and MS Narayana takes care of it. The plus points are Mahesh Babu’s charm, Seenu Vytla’s comedy timing and a workable script. On the flip side, there is a bit of redundancy in villain characterizations. Mahesh Babu delivers an universally acceptable entertainer in the form of Dookudu after a gap of five years. Go and watch it.
Trade talk: It’s been ages since a Telugu big star’s film got positive talk on the day one. It is a good omen for Telugu film industry that is literally feeding on Tamil dubbed films in this year so far. With Mahesh Babu’s star power, there is no limit for a movie can achieve with a positive talk. Wait and watch as the records smash in the days come.

Review
Story
pilla zamindar PJ (Nani) is the grandson of a wealthy zamindar. PJ is an irresponsible youngster who is spoilt by the pampering and excessive money. His grandfather writes a will with several conditions before he dies. He writes the will that PJ will inherit his entire wealth only if he completes his graduation as a common man without any luxeries. The rest of the story is all about how PJ learns about values and life as he achieves his goal.
Artists Performance
Pilla ZamindarNani: Nani has the knack of bringing likability to the characters he play. The character of a spoilt kid turning into a responsible youngster is not a new character. But Nani makes sure that he is lovable and admirable with his portrayal. There is a dialogue that refers to his character in the movie when he wears servant’s costumes. That dialogues summarizes it all – he is capable of playing both mass and class characters. Scripts like these need a performing hero to get them work and Nani makes sure that he injects life into the script with his work.

pilla zamindarOthers: Hari Priya is neat as a girl who is cheated. Bindu Madhavi gets another haughty character. Meghana Naidu does an item song. Rao Ramesh played the dignified character to the tee. Srini Avasarala gets a nice character and does complete justice. All he needs is a good break in a big-cast blockbuster, he will go places. It’s is nice to see MS Narayana being given a performance oriented role and he is an excellent actor. Raghu Karumanchi came out of his typical Telangana dialect zone and did a nice character (Vamsi trademark). Friends gang (especially Dhanraj and Thagubothu Ramesh) made their presence felt. Ranadhir is good as an innocent bad guy (character similar to that of Ravi Babu’s in Murari film). Dr. Siva Prasad played the role of a lawyer with his typical Nellore dialect.

Pilla ZamindarStory – screenplay – direction: The basic story line is taken from a Korean film titled ‘A Millionnaire’s First Love’ (2006). The director has added a bit of nativity. Director Ashok has handled the entertainment scenes well. The sentiment scenes are too dramatized. Screenplay of the movie is alright.
pilla zamindarOther departments: Music by Selva Ganesh is average. Background score is good in parts. I liked the way ‘ayyayyo dabulu poyene’ tune injected at the right moments to make certain scenes more entertaining. Dialogues by Chandra Sekhar are good. Cinematography by Sai Sreeram is alright.
Pilla ZamindarAnalysis: First half of the film has sufficient entertainment. Second half has less of entertainment and more of sentiment. Plus points are Nani’s performance and entertainment aspect. On the flip side there is too much dramatization in the second half though it was inserted to highlight the human values. On a whole, Pilla Zamindar is not a bad film.

Story
7th sense (Disclaimer: considerable portion of story is revealed in this paragraph) Bodhadharma is a real character who was basically a king of Pallava dynasty from Tamil Nadu in 6th Century. He was a expert in martial arts, medicine and hypnotism. He goes to China, saves their people from a deadly virus and teaches the the art of kung-fu. Eventually he dies in China on the behest of his followers. Arvind who presently works in Bombay Circus belongs the dynasty of Pallavas. Arvind is smitten by Subha Srinivas who is a bio-technology scientist. She submits a thesis which proves that the attributes and powers of our ancestors can be brought back to the current generation if the DNA matches. She aims to get back the powers of Bodhidharma through Arvind as he is having 83% match of the DNA. Meanwhile, a man is sent from China with evil intentions. The rest of the story is all about how Arvind rises to the occasion and destroys the evil powers.
Artists Performance
7th senseSurya has done two characters. One is as Bodhidharma and the other one as a worker in circus. Surya is fabulous as Bodhidharma. However the character of circus boy who turns into a savior is not properly etched. Shruti Hassan looks decent and acts well. Her character is essential and critical in this film. Johnny Tri Nguyen – a Vietnamese American actor has donned the role of villain and he is deadly.
Technical departments
7th senseStory – screenplay – direction: Story of the film is excellent. The director Murugadoss has come up with a novel idea by blending a real/historic incident to a fictional set-up. However, the screenplay is not taut and the required emotion which is vital for semi-science-fiction films like these is missing. Direction is good in parts. The way he has explained the story of Bodhidharma (first 20 minutes), the function of DNA and how virus spreads is excellent. Murugadoss who has done Ghajini by mixing class/mass commercial elements in right proportion didn’t get them right in this movie. The character of circus artist Surya becomes passive as heroine dictate terms in most of the movie. Murugadoss came up with nice concept, but lost it in translating onto the screen.
7th senseOther departments: Music by Harris Jayaraj is good. Yellelama and Oh Ringa Ringa are catchy. Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is excellent. Dialogues by Sri Rama Krishna are okay. However the dubbing voices used for small artists are artificial/over-dramatic and remind us of popular Hollywood Telugu dubbing voices. Peter Hein choreographed stunts and they are partly good. Editing should have been better and production values are good.
7th senseAnalysis: First half is okay. Second half lacks the commercial grip. 7th Sense is an example for a big-star-cast-huge-budgeted movie that looks wonderful on the paper, but falters in the execution. The concept is innovative, but format/screenplay/arch is not good enough to narrate this story in an arresting fashion. We have to wait and see how this Diwali release fares at box office.
